I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure this is the best portrait I have painted thus far. I need to do more paintings, and more from life.....not so much from the imagination (although I did add somewhat fictional lighting to this one)
Corel Painter X., Pastels paired with Oils and Liquid ink. 6 hours.
Thanks! I'm proud of them yellow highlights. Yeah... I think I could have done better on the shoulder there. Dang it.

Wow, there's really something lovely about it. Though it is an artistic representation (as opposed to an attempt at photorealism), there's something very real and living about him. I think it's the fact that you captured a real smile, the eyes are smiling too
The shoulders bug me too, but other than that, it gets full marks from me. Great job!
It's a shame. It looks good, but sort of too close to the head. I don't know what your layers are like, mind you, you could cut and paste it further to the right. It might be the right scale. Ooo, ooo, if not, you can enlarge that bit on its own. I'll tell you how if you don't know already. It might look ok, if not, you'll just have to re-paint it or knowing you, leave it, lol.
I would strongly recommend getting into flipping the canvas horizontally, as often as possible. It really does show you the pic with fresh eyes. I use it all the time, before every stage. It would have shown something like this up, in the early stages, when it was easier to correct.

Gotta crush on a pretty pistol,
Should I tell her that I feel this way?
Very expresive and a good choose of colours. The overall apearance looks somewhat dark, but the expression of hope on his face contrasts the gloomy mood.
If that are peircings on his left brow, they seems to be odd coloured. I thought people prefer those shiney, metallic thingies and not plain black ones.
Devious Comments
Only thing I've noticed, is that the right shoulder looks a little small.
